There are numerous benefits of meditation, however, in this article, we are focusing on meditation for relaxation. This article will provide you a brief note on meditation methods that will help you to relax.

Metta Meditation or Loving Kindness Meditation

Metta is a Pali word (a language that is not used now, however, most of the Buddhist theologies are written in this language) referring loving-kindness, benevolence, friendliness, goodwill, amity, and active interest in others. Metta is one of the four sublime states as explained in Theravada School of Buddhism. Metta Meditation is a popular form of Buddhist meditation.

In the past Metta Meditation was basically used for spiritual growth, enlightenment to be precise, however, these days this form of Buddhist meditation is used for relaxation, In this meditation method, you chant mantras and send your good thoughts to others. You send love and kindness to other people through Metta Meditation. Therefore, it is also called Loving Kindness Meditation.

One of the reasons why you are disturbed is because you have too many negative thoughts about other people. However, Metta Meditation or Loving Kindness Meditation will help you develop good thought and send your love and kindness to other people through mantra.

Chakra Meditation

Hindu and Buddhist Tantra explains about a serpent lying between the excretory and urinary organs in human beings. This serpent is called Kundalini. When this serpent kundalini power is evoked through meditation and other rituals, it will rise and enter into various chakras lying on the spinal cord. There are 7 chakras. The first one is the one where kundalini resides. And the 7th one is on the scalp.

When you meditate on these chakras, you will be able to activate energy fields associated with these chakras. Thus helping you to relax and become calm. Meditation on chakras involves visualizing these chakras and concentrating on the areas where these chakras are situated.

Yoga Meditation

Patanjali Yog Sutra is the authoritative book on Yoga which is believed to have written in 400 AD by Indian sage Patanjali. Yoga is basically a technique that connects the mind with the body, puts mind and body in equilibrium, thus helping you to become relaxed. Yoga recommends a lot of postures and exercise that you relax your mind and body.

Another reason why we need to relax, aside from lowering blood pressure in people and decreasing the chances of a stroke or a heart attack, is because stress produces hormones that suppress the immune system, relaxation gives the immune system time to recover and in doing so function more efficiently.
