Meditation Techniques: Meditation for Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Generally speaking, meditation was devised for spiritual development. People meditated for spiritual growth. Meditation made people more conscious, more aware. However, not everyone could benefit from meditation as it involved following a strict routine. Interestingly, strict discipline did not deter people from exploring other benefits of meditation. They discovered that apart from spiritual development, meditation was also very useful in relaxation and stress reduction. Today, a lot of people practice meditation to manage stress, anxiety, depression, migraine, or simply become calm, poised, and relaxed.
When you meditate, your brain and body are relaxed. By meditating for a long time, you will experience increased awareness, better memory, and concentration, and also develop a positive outlook in life.
For hundreds of years meditation was mainly reserved for monks, mystics and other spiritual disciplines. Meditation was beyond the reach of common people as you were required to follow monastic lifestyle t practice meditation. However, these days meditation is being promoted as something anyone can try anywhere they want. You can meditate even in your bedroom and experience all the benefits that meditation offers.
There are numerous meditation methods. Even though there are a lot of meditation techniques, all of these meditation techniques take you to the same goal. Different meditation methods have the same destination. It does not matter what method you follow, you will reach the same level of awareness, and the same kind of spiritual development. How effective these methods are depends on how devoted you are to the meditation routine.
Here are some methods that you can try for relaxation and stress reduction
Mindfulness meditation
In Mindfulness Meditation, you observe your thoughts, emotions, senses, situations with a detached overview. When you observe yourself and your surrounding without any attachment, you will become less stressful. Being less stressful means, you are more relaxed.
Mantra Meditation
Mantra Meditation is a technique where you constantly meditate on the mantra. Meditating on mantra means chanting mantra silently with complete focus. You focus on every word and every sound of mantras. Mantra meditation has two benefits. One the sound energy from the mantra chanting will have a positive physiological reaction in your body, two you will become relaxed and less stressful. You can try mantra meditation methods like Transcendental Meditation or Guided Meditation.
